Bush Hammer

 

For use on softer stone such as marble or limestone.  It is used for shaping, texturing or smoothing.

If the mason wishes to shape or remove stone, he swings it with more force and impact on the stone. A lighter impact force will only smooth the stone, leaving a stippled finish.

Stippled finish on Carthage “Marble” limestone on Bates County Courthouse was produced by a bush hammer.
