Grand RiverTownship, Bates County, Missouri
Located at the northern edge of Bates County on the old J. Gloyd homestead, the quarry was first used in the early 1900’s as a source of building (primarily foundations) stone for homes in the area.
With the development and graveling of roads in the township in the late 1920-‘s and 1930’s the quarry was expanded and used primarily for crushed road rock. Much of the work was done under the W.P.A. programs.
The quarry is primarily limestone. On the current floor of the quarry is a thin layer of shale. The south edge of the quarry lies right at the roads edge and the quarry is no deeper than 15 feet at its deepest point along the northern edge.

The northern edge of the quarry. Rock was of uneven quality and suitable only for foundations and for crushing for road rock.
